JUPITER : Supreme Roman god, equivalent to Zeus, he reigns over the sky and the gods from the Capitol. Master of lightning and thunder, he is represented with a sceptre or a bolt of lightning. The son of Saturn, whom he overthrew, he embodied authority, justice and the protection of Rome. Father of Hercules and husband of Juno, he is also known for his many divine and mortal liaisons.
